Ultrasonic welding uses energy in the form of vibration to weld suture in a focused area. The AxyaWeld® System generates the ultrasonic energy in the handpiece from a high-frequency signal. The resulting vibration is transferred to the sutures via a tuned wave guide producing the weld.
As ultrasonic energy is applied, the two round suture segments vibrate within the confines of the weld anvil. The result is the patented AxyaLoop®, a continuous, high strength monofilament loop without a knot.
The entire welding process takes place in a fraction of a second. The speed and security of the AxyaWeld® System makes it ideal for the demands of suture fixation.
